La Plagne is in fact a group of eleven villages, sitting between 1800m and 2100m, in the French alps. Each village has its own unique character, although they can be separated into two broad groups: the 7 higher altitude villages are largely purpose-built no-nonsense entities, while the 4 lower altitude villages (including Champagny) are traditional villages that have been expanded to meet the needs of a modern ski resort. La Plagne's high-altitude (up to 3250m) means snow-sure conditions are guaranteed on its 225km of slopes, served by 107 lifts. What's more, La Plagne is part of the extensive Paradiski region (a cable car takes you to Paradiski's Les Arcs), which has an enormous 425km of runs, served by 144 lifts and kept in great condition by 791 snow cannons. For those that are still not satisfied, day trips to Val D'Isere and the Three Valleys are possible. Read more...
Because of its extensive ski area, La Plagne caters equally well to beginners, intermediates and expert skiers and snowboarders. For beginners there are 18 free lifts available, so you don't need to pay out for the ski pass if you're not going to use it. For those ready to hit the slopes properly, wide, rolling greens and blues are perfect for progression. For more advanced skiers there is a great range of red runs, and while the most experienced might be disappointed by the range of black runs on offer, the excellent off-piste opportunities will more than make up for this. Skiing on and around the Bellecote glacier affords stunning views as well as providing some difficult terrain to ski on. Snowboarders will not only enjoy the off-piste, there is also a snow park with all sorts of obstacles, including jumps, boxes, tables and rails.
If downhill skiing is not your thing, then you could explore some of the resort's 80km of cross country trails, or even have a go at bobsleigh on the run used for the 1992 Olympic Winter Games (1.5km long with 19 bends it's not for the faint-hearted!)
There's a great range of catered and self-catered accommodation in La Plagne that is sure to suit your holiday needs
La Plagne's accommodation options are diverse and vary significantly depending on which of the 11 villages you opt for. Choose one of the 7 higher-altitude villages and you'll likely be in a self-catered ski-in/ski-out apartment or chalet in La Plagne, providing a convenient base for access not only to the pistes but also to off-the-piste entertainment. The four lower-lying villages are more traditional alpine settlements, and so here you can expect to choose from a range of catered chalets and self-catered chalets and apartments in La Plagne. In the villages you can expect to find great apres-ski options in bars and restaurants, as well as cinemas and sports facilities.
