Portes du Soleil - Chatel

Summary
Chatel is a delightful ski resort a charming town that is unspoilt and still French linked to the massive Portes du Soleil. With superb skiing and cozy chalets it really is a great experience.
Description
Chatel is quaint and relatively unspoilt, with just 5kms to Switzeland you can definetly see the Swiss influence in the charming chalets throughout the valley.

The skiing is relatively low compared to some of the other giants, 1300 metres to 2400 metres, however you are more than spoilt with the choices of runs, a real intermediate paradise and yet for the more adventurous there is still loads to do. In the past the very high resorts have trouble with the lifts breaking down because of high winds, in Chatel we have something called trees which is a godsend in bad weather believe you me, you see the benefits of a lower resort then.
With its high altitude neighbour Avoriaz there really is everything for everyone in Chatel.

You can dine out for approximate £20 pp including wine, there are many and varied restaurants in the village and on the mountain from snack bars to fine dining, you can even pop over the border for a hot chocolate in Switzeland.
One of my favourite areas is Pre la Joux, a fantastic area with a modern lift system and so easy to get to Avoriaz and Morzine. A great place to eat here is the Bois Prin, spring wood, fantastic service great atmosphere and not costly.

Nightlife in Chatel is centred around the bars with the Tunnel and the Avalanche having great atmosphere.

Chatel is a town still developing but with its own identity, with great ski schools and a wonderful French feel it is ideal for families.

At our chalets we have the same people come time and time again, thanks of course to our great service we provide, but in all seriousness because they have fallen in love with the town Chatel.
