Cycling in Morzine - Summer in the Alps

Chamonix

At just eight hours from Calais and one hour from Geneva Airport, Chamonix is easily accessible for UK visitors and hosts a range of summer holiday experiences.

At the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix is one of the worlds top trail running locations, recently garnering the name – Valle du Trail. So far, 18 trails have been graded and are mountain bike free with trails to suit every ability.

Chamonix is also famous for its world-class annual running events. The Mont Blanc Marathon weekend in June and UMTB in August attract runners from across the globe.

Many of Chamonix’s ski lifts are open throughout the summer, providing easy and affordable access to the high mountain activities. As well as the summer festivals, wine tours, wellbeing day trips or exhilarating mountain activities; Chamonix also has easy access to the must-see city of Annecy, the Venice of the Alps!

Mont Blanc - summer in the alps

Verbier

A chic and trendy Alpine village in Switzerland’s Valais Canton, and the gateway to the 4 Vallées ski area; enjoy the usual mountain outdoor activities or relax and relish the epic scenery and soak up as much sun as possible.

Keen cyclists can test their fitness on some of the most gruelling sections used in the Tour de France. If cycling’s not your thing, just hop on a horse and head out to enjoy the fantastic mountainside trails.

For the more cultural activities visit one of the many concerts laid on annually during July and August as part of the Verbier Festival. Spanning three weeks of the summer, the festival offers classical artists the opportunity to attend workshops and coaching sessions and an outstanding programme of classical concerts set against the stunning backdrop of the Swiss Alps.

Zermatt

Probably one of the areas prettiest resorts and a fantastic choice for a summer break in the mountains. Take full advantage of being in the highest ski area in the Alps, with summer skiing. If summer skiing isn’t for you, there’s lots to keep everyone occupied including outdoor activities, great shopping and fantastic restaurants.

Lying at the foot of the iconic Matterhorn, Zermatt has maintained its original character. Enjoy freedom for children to wander the car free, cobbled streets, whilst you shop in some of the beautiful boutiques.

If you can’t pull yourself completely away from the beach, Zermatt boasts a beach with crystal clear waters that have filtered down through the mountains.

And for the younger children in your party take them to Wolli’s adventure park at Sunnegga where they can explore the playgrounds whilst you relax by the idyllic mountain lake with its gorgeous view of the Matterhorn.
