Sitting right in the centre of the Portes du Soleil ski area, and set atop a sloping shelf above a dramatic high cliff the resort provides excellent access to more than 650km of varied pistes. With excellent facilities for families, a fantastic snow record and some of the best terrain for freestylers and in particular snowboarders in the whole of the Alps, it justifies its place on many must-ski lists.

Set a few km up from the more established Morzine, Avoriaz is instantly recognizable, with the tall apartment blocks sitting upon a jutting cliff, affording fantastic views of Morzine and the valley below.

Drinks/Bars info

Avoriaz is principally a ski resort for families, but that doesn't mean there's a lack après ski and the resort has lots of great bars dotted around the resort and slopes for the traditional post-ski refreshment. The fact Avoriaz has great terrain parks like Le Stash and reputation for freestyle riding means it can attract a younger crowd who love a bit of revelry and with over 40 bars it isn't hard to find a good apres ski spot. But bear in mind that Avoriaz is a first and foremost a family resort so the après ski isn't as hedonistic as some other ski resorts in the Alps
