Saalbach and Hinterglemm are separate villages in the Salzburgerland region of Austria. Their centres are about 4km apart, and each village has its own distinct character: Saalbach is the most visually appealing of the two, with its buildings spreading out from a pretty church, but both have a pleasant, traditional feel. The resort is one of Austria’s major ski destinations, and it hosted the 1991 Alpine Ski World Championships. Nearby resorts that are reachable either on ski or by car include Leogang, Zell am See and Hochkonig. Getting to Saalbach-Hinterglem is quickest from Salzburg airport (1hr30mins) and Munich (2hr30mins). Read more...

The resort’s ‘ski-circus’, which links the two villages, has 200km of piste served by 55 lifts. The resort’s lift system is amongst the best in the world, with remaining slow lifts disappearing each year, and a number of lifts start in the village making it easy for you to get on the slopes. There is also an impressive snowmaking system, so that despite altitudes of 930-2095m the 90% coverage by snow-guns means you’ve got a snow-sure guarantee in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. And the resort’s offering, with plenty of easy reds and blues, make a mixed ability ski holiday in Saalbach-Hinterglemm a great option. For those looking to learn to ski in Saalbach-Hinterglemm there are good nursery slopes in their own area, and a choice of ski schools.
