Valmeinier is an old mountain village with a modern satellite which is where most of the resort's accommodation is located. Valmeinier and nearby Valloire share the Galibier Thabor skiing area, the largest in the Maurienne valley, which offers 150km of runs split into 75 pistes, served by 33 lifts and kept in great conditions by 400 snow guns. The ski area has something for everyone, and beginners can choose between group and private tuition, and have 20 green runs on which to cut their teeth. Intermediate skiers have many reds and blues to ski or snowboard on, whilst more experienced skiers can ski black runs, slalom courses, 2 international competition runs as well as going off-piste! Snowboarders are most likely to enjoy the wider runs, off-piste and freestyle snowpark areas. Cross country skiers can take to the 10km of trails.
