Les Houches – The hidden gem of the Chamonix Valley

Les Houches is situated at the beginning of the Chamonix Valley and has easy access to all the ski areas in the valley yet has it’s own stunning tree-lined ski area right on your door step!  The Mont Blanc tunnel and Courmayeur are just a 25 minutes drive away meaning you could even experience a little bit of Italy during your stay.

  • Les Houches boasts tree lined pistes meaning you can still enjoy a day on the mountain on those bad weather days!
  • If you are feeling daring you can ski the famous Kandahar World Cup run, have fun trying Ski Cross or get adventurous in the snow park

  • Hire a guide and try your hand at the off-piste among the trees
  • Enjoy the stunning views of the Chamonix Valley from the snow shoe trails
  • Night Skiing – A great fun and friendly atmosphere, enhanced by music and a bar serving hot chocolate and mulled wine.
    Access to the Tourchet draglift is free of charge for those that wish to ski or snowboard under the stars and there may also be the opportunity to try out snow toys, such as the snow-scoot, or vintage equipment, such as old fashioned skis and télémarks
  • The ice rink is a fun place to spend an hour or two and is located in the centre of the village.

  • Lunch in a quaint mountain restaurants – the following come highly recommended by Ten74
    • Les Vielles Luges Restaurant, run by Julie & Claude has been voted in the top 10 mountain restaurants in France – make sure you book!  You can ski down from Prarion or snow shoe up from Maison Neuve car park, the choice is yours!
    • La Taniere, an Argentinian influenced restaurant nestled at the bottom of the slopes, serving Argentinian beef and other wonderful dishes, not to mention the delicious cakes on offer each day. Reservations recommended!
  • Apres Ski –   Why not visit the quirky Kitsch Inn, right next to the Bellevue Cable car and listen to the regular live bands.  Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with vegetarian options available as well
  • Great restaurants in the village.
    • Le Basilic is a wonderful Savoyard restaurant with a great atmosphere and fabulous food.  It fills up fast in the winter season so make sure you reserve your table.
    • Le Delice – Lunch, dinner or just drop in for Happy Hour.  Contemporary menu sourcing local ingredients.  There’s a small bar area and really friendly service.
  • Les Houches is quieter than other ski areas in the valley with three access lifts to take you up to the slopes:
    • Bellevue Cable car is in the centre of the village
    • Prarion high speed bubble lift is at the end of the village
    • Maison Neuve car park is a few minutes drive up the mountain along the Route des Chavants and has a 4 man chair lift as well as a ticket office.
