Dog-friendly chalets – the pawfect holiday for man’s best friend!

Going on holiday is great fun, but we know it can be tricky when you have a dog. Every dog owner wants to take their furry friend on holiday, and the Alps are a great option because you can drive there from the UK, as well as other European countries. With plenty of outdoor space for your pup to run around in, staying in a chalet is perfect for your four-legged friend.

Here are some things to consider when taking your dog on holiday:

  1. Location: You want to make sure the chalet is easily accessible for four legs, so if there are tricky stairs think about whether your dog can easily climb them. Also, a chalet in a quieter location is better so there are less loud noises which might alarm your dog.
  2. Restrictions: Some chalets have restrictions on dogs, even if they are dog-friendly. They might have a restriction on the breed of dog, or size, so make sure to double-check this. You also want to make sure that the chalet, or apartment is large enough for your dog to be comfortable.
  3. Dog-services: Some chalets will offer services for your dog, such as dog-walking, or dog-sitting. This can make it easy for you if you want to go out to a restaurant, or somewhere which is less dog-friendly.
  4. Pet Passports: Regulations for pet travel in and out of the UK has changed since Brexit, so you need to double check the requirements of the country you’re travelling to. An EU-issued pet passport or Animal Health Certificate (AHC) is now required for travel to the EU and Northern Ireland. See here for more information.

Hiking is beautiful in ski resorts, and there are many hiking trails which are dog-friendly. Hiking is not only great exercise, but a chance to explore new places and see some wonderful views.

In winter, just remember that dogs aren’t allowed on the pistes. Only rescue dogs are allowed during working hours. Many resorts allow you to walk your dog before the lifts open, as long as they are on a lead.
