What can I take in my hand luggage on board the plane?

The ever burning question… just what is allowed in your hand luggage. Here is our handy guide to getting through airport security*!

Double check before you go!

The following items are permitted in your hand luggage:

  • Baby Food
  • Camera and related equipment
  • Disposable Razor Blades
  • Dried Fruit and nuts
  • Electric razor
  • Hair dryer & Straighteners (some airports require you to take these out of your bag at security)
  • Lap top
  • Liquids under 100ml (in a clear plastic bag no bigger than 20cm by 20cm)
  • MP3
  • Nail Clippers
  • Sewing and Knitting needles
  • Tweezers
  • Tablet or E-Reader
  • Travel Iron
  • Scissors with blades less than 6cm
  • Scissors with rounded ends – any length
  • Safety matches and lighter per person (some airlines allow this so double check)
  • Umberella’s and Walking Canes

The following items are prohibited:

  • Corkscrew
  • Candles (though they are allowed in your clear bag as are classed as liquid!)
  • Jam, syrup, honey
  • Knives or razor blades
  • Liquids over 100ml (including water)
  • Scissors with blades longer than 6cm and sharp points
  • Soft Cheese
  • Sports Equipment – e.g hiking poles, bats, golf clubs etc
