But when you step out on to the sunny balcony, the wonderful views over the rooftops of Morzine to the mountains beyond will leave you in no doubt that you're in the heart of some great skiing, hiking and biking. And after a day exploring this wonderful area, you'll be happy to relax in the hot tub at Loft Le Soho before hitting the town.

There's a parking space with the apartment, but you won't need your car to get around. With lifts, shops, bars and restaurants all within a short walk of your door, and a ski bus to help you explore further, you can just park it up and forget about it.

Whether you're visiting with friends or family, the wonderful open-plan living area at Loft le Soho will be where you make all your holiday memories. A stylish, well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook up some tasty food - step out on to the balcony for a pre-dinner drink before getting together around the dining table next to the woodburning stove to enjoy your meal.

After dinner, take the party up to the living room on the mezzanine floor, where there are plenty of sofas and comfy chairs around another woodburning stove and a television. There's another balcony here too, where the views are perhaps even better than downstairs!

The five en suite bedrooms are on the lower floor - there are three double rooms as well as two family rooms, which each have a double bed and a single bed as well as access to balconies.

Loft Le Soho also has a useful laundry room and a ski store, where you can leave all your outdoor equipment before you head off to relax in the hot tub.

Morzine is in the centre of the Portes du Soleil which, with 12 interconnected resorts in France and Switzerland, and 650km of pistes, offers plenty of scope for skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities.

If you're not a skier, Morzine also offers indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks, which are often host to ice hockey matches, and the local cinema often shows films in English.

The more adventurous might like to try snowmobiling or ice-climbing on some of the area's frozen waterfalls, or discover the area in a more sedate manner on a sleigh ride. Other ways to have fun include snowshoeing and sledging, while the Indiana adventure park offers a variety of activities for all ages.

When the snow melts, the lush green slopes around Morzine become a haven for walkers, mountain bikers and thrill-seekers. The lifts will transport you and your bike up the mountains, leaving you to come back down at your leisure. Take a picnic, and make a day of it!

Morzine has earned Famille Plus status for its excellent childcare and entertainment programme, so it's the perfect choice for young families. There are superb water parks in the town and in neighbouring Avoriaz, as well as two summer sledges, while the Indiana adventure park has a range of assault courses to suit all ages.

Golfers will find excellent courses in Les Gets and Avoriaz. Other activities include climbing, rafting, via ferrata, canyoning, mini-golf, quad bikes, fishing and kayaking. Take advantage of the Portes du Soleil Multi Pass, which offers unrestricted access to the full range of family activities, at an exclusive rate of 2euro per day.
