Three hidden gems in the three valleys!

Our friends at Alpine Escape have partnered with Ashley Kay of First Tracks Ski Coaching to bring to you 3 hidden gems in the Three Valleys to avoid the crowds this winter…

The Three Valleys ski area spans over 1400km² providing wide and varied terrain with a multitude of runs for all levels! Whilst you can easily and quickly find your way around the main runs it takes time to really get to know the area in detail.

When the pistes get hectic it’s great to know some hidden spots off the beaten track, nice and quiet even in the busier weeks.  The three trails below have discrete start points or are even hidden from the view of people coming up the lifts!  Perfect!

  • If you are at an intermediate level try Villages, one of the prettiest runs, this trail leads onto the Raffort slope in the Meribel valley.  The piste is narrow and winds down through pine trees and orchards of apple and cherry trees.  When you reach the bottom of Raffort, cross the road and catch the Olympe bubble back up to Meribel la Chaudanne.

  • For those intermediate and advanced level skiers and snowboarders take Altipole in Courchevel.  This quiet run starts next to La Cave des Creux restaurant and has only been in existence for 3 years.  Whilst it is not particularly long it is often empty and perfectly groomed offering the perfect carving slope!
  • If you are a beginner you can take advantage of the scenic slope which runs to the Clos Bernard Restaurant in Meribel.  The piste starts by the Piste des Animaux just at the bottom of the Loze chairlift and takes you through the beautiful forest.  Rest your weary legs and have a hot chocolate at the Clos Bernard restuarant nestled in the trees.  It is recommended to do this run with a guide or instructor to avoid getting lost, you can even take a horse drawn sled to avoid the short walk back to the slopes!
