Tignes Le Lac is the original settlement and remains the hub of the resort to this day. Split into to the two sub resorts of Le Rosset and Le Bec Rouge, the two meet in a pedestrianised area which is the meeting point for lifts out of the resort, and there's a choice between a gondola in the direction of Val D'Isere or a chairlift to slopes on the western side of the valley. The resort is part of the group of villages known as Tignes 2100, which is high-altitude and has a skiing area that peaks at 3455m, offering 150km of piste served by 47 lifts. However, there is access to the larger L'Espace Killy, which extends to 300km of piste served by 79 lifts and kept in peak condition by 974 snow cannons. Because of the resort's location at the bottom of a lift and a gondola, getting to the slopes is quick and easy, and even those parts that are further away, such as Le Grande Motte glacier, can be reached by ski in no time at all. Beginners in Tignes Le Lac have free access to nursery runs, and there is a range of ski school options available. More experienced skiers have a diverse selection of blues, reds and blacks, and the best skiers will be challenged by ungroomed naturides and off-piste. Snowboarders in Tignes Le Lac are spoilt: specialist board schools are present, there's some of the world's best off-piste, and there are wide runs to carve up.
