Go Skiing in Your Living Room!

With the clocks going back and night’s drawing in, we’re all dreaming of that crisp mountain air, pristine pistes, stylish chalets and spring blue skies. Luckily, our Friends over at Ski Magic have found the perfect solutions for you to bide your time in lockdown #2 until you can hit the slopes again…

Here are their 4 top tips on how to have a day on the slopes from the comfort and safety of your living room!

Look the part

Treat yourself to a full English breakfast, chalet style, then get ALL your ski gear out of the wardrobe and give it a good airing by… wearing it! What better way to get in the mood for a day of watching ski videos than to look the part? (Yes that includes wearing your ski boots!)

Now you’re all dressed up…

Fill your backpack with water bottles, spare sunglasses, chocolate bars and a piste map, then lug it up and down the stairs a few times as a warmup, because its time to get sweaty…

That’s right, it’s time to ski! Well sort of… But maybe it’s a good idea to do a little exercise just in case you manage to get away on a ski trip this winter.

According to Chris Maher of Ski Physio, being well-prepared should you manage to escape on a ski holiday this winter is “essential for helping your neuro-muscular system to cope”. This means “practising the activity you are about to do which will help your brain’s reaction time and means that your muscles will cope better.

Some ideas for exercises you could try at home include:

1) Cardio-vascular work for endurance and leg strength
2) Adding step-ups, lunges and squats will build muscles and improve fitness
3) Pilates – an excellent way to build core strength and flexibility

Cardio is not always easy to do at home, but as Joe Wicks has been known to head to the slopes, one of his workouts would be a great place to start, especially if you do it in your ski gear..?

Check out some ski videos…

Whilst we all love to see those gnarly dudes shredding the backcountry, maybe it’s all a bit too much to see genuine powder skiing, so here are our alternative favourites:

Food glorious food!

The 3 Valleys has plenty of après-ski options, from the crazy Folie Douce cabaret shows to the  dancefloors of “The Ronnie”… So now you’ve had a fun day ‘on the slopes’, it’s time to dance!

Jacks Bar in Meribel are running ‘The Confinement Sessions 2’ with local bands playing ‘live’ on their facebook page  – watch back the videos or even catch a live gig. Grab your favourite après drink and start dancing like no-one is watching (yes, you have to keep your ski boots on!)

If you need some serious Alpine cheese after that busy day on the mountain, here’s your answer… Former Courchevel seasonnaire and founder of Jimmy’s Pop-Up, Jimmy Garcia, is brightening up lock-down by delivering 3-course Alpine meal boxes which include mulled wine, Mont d’Or cheese to melt and eat with a selection of charcuterie, pickles, potatoes, salad and sourdough. And there’s even a chocolate pudding as well. What a perfect way to end your day on the slopes…

Need a ski fix? Keep an eye on our availability for your last minute ski holiday…
