The Ultimate Guide to Bansko, by Guest Bloggers Explore Bansko.

There is more than meets the eye at Bansko! Check out our latest post by guest bloggers Explore Bansko for your ultimate guide to Bulgaria’s premier all seasons mountain resort straight from the experts themselves!

Bansko is Bulgaria’s most popular and biggest ski resort. The most snow-sure resort in Bulgaria, it is set between three mountain ranges with the ski area up to an altitude of 2000-2600 meters and has around 70km worth of pistes.

With 16 runs, from black to green, Bansko is continuing to grow in popularity. The ski centres cater for all ages and levels, making it an ideal location for young families. For those advanced skiers a giant slalom run is available, however for more thrills take advantage of the off-piste terrain (guides available), heli-skiing or head further out to the Rila Mountains.

And it’s not just the slopes that are pulling in the powder hunters – the après-ski rivals some of the best in the Alps. The atmosphere is incredible, with venues to suite all tastes and budgets. If you’re a wine lover, you won’t be disappointed – there are several local restaurants called ‘Mehanas’ which are old-style taverns where you can try the most spectacular traditional Bulgarian food and wine, and often host wine tasting events that are extremely popular with tourists.

The Unesco World Heritage Site – Pirin National Park is not just for winter. Bansko prides itself as an all-season resort, making it a great base for exploring Bansko and the surrounding area. There is no hibernation for Bansko, as the glorious sunshine, lavish green forest, cobbled streets and imposing mountains make the perfect setting for summer adventures with family and friends.

The area is a also well known for its naturally occurring hot mineral springs and dozens of spa complexes – the perfect place to wind down and recover after a day on the slopes, or if you’re a non-skier or just fancy a day off it’s a great place to relax (if you go in the later afternoon you can watch the sunset while you soak!).

Summer activities on offer include hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. Alternatively, you could always take it easy and enjoy your beautiful surroundings, including museums and monasteries.
